High school is a very difficult and exciting transfer from the usual middle school lifestyle.
Today was the 2008 freshman transition day, where approximately 450 students went through a variety of activities to help get them acclimated to their new environment.
“[The point is] to help take away some of the anxiety of the first day and make them feel special, because the really are,” team leader Andrew Little said.
Students got tours of the school, attended an activities fair to find out what the school offers, and got to check out their new lockers, all without the stress of the first day crowds.
“[High school] is like a new step, and it’s going to be a lot more crowded,” freshman Jeff Mayo said.
The day was not all about mapping out the school, it was also about finding their way with the people. With so many mentors to help guide them through the ins and outs, many freshmen found this day very helpful
“I knew how scared I was when I was a freshman and I wanted to make them realize that there are people here to help,” mentor Sami Hitchcock said.
