A Cross Rock band from North win’s competition

The first Cross Rock concert took place at the Church of the Shepard on Saturday, Aug. 30 from noon to 7 p.m. At the event there were games, inflatables, live music and guest speakers.

To start off the day a “Youth Praise Band ‘Sing Your Heart Out’ Battle” was held. The bands participating were Fighting For Friday, Unsecluded, and Fusion Youth Praise Band.

The crowd started to gather once Fusion Youth Praise Band started the show. When they finished, the four members of Unsecluded took the stage, and last but not least was Fighting For Friday.
Each band was allowed to sing two songs.

There was a short break before the winner was announced by Kate Manfull, the organizer of Cross Rock. After smiling big and holding the crowd on the edge of their lawn chairs, she finally shouted the winner, Fighting For Friday.

“I was just expecting to do a show and just have fun,” lead singer for Fighting For Friday, David Tecklenburg said, “so it surprised me when we won because I wasn’t really in it for winning.”

Fighting For Friday’s award was four hours of free recording time, which they used the next weekend. The members include Tecklenburg, Connor Usry, Thom Loeffler, and A.J. Blandina, all students at North.

Church of the Shepard plans to continue doing Cross Rock in the future.
