Couple opens tie-dye shop At Mid-Rivers Mall Splash’d is a unique place to tie-dye

Sitting around and tossing ideas back and fourth, 26-year-old Chad Menke and his 29-yearold girlfriend JoAnne Scheffer came up with an idea. It was something creative and random

but they thought it would be a hit. Turns out they were right.

“The name Splash’d just came to us,” Menke said. “We wanted something with color and thought of splashing color.”

The tie-dye shop, which currently has one location in the Mid Rivers Mall, opened this past November. Ever since, the store has been a hit for teenagers and adults alike. North’s
very own swim team and JV basketball team went there to get tie-dye team shirts done. It’s a unique experience for workers as well as the customers.

“It’s a lot of fun making your own clothing and just being in a laid back, fun environment,” employee Jimmy Lee said.

Lining the inside of the shop,
tie-dye shirts hang on the walls.
Pieces of white clothing are available
in the back for customers to
pick from and design themselves.
Types of clothing included are Tshirts,
hoodies, and towels. But if
customers don’t like what there is
to choose from, they can bring in
something of their own that they’d
like tie-dyed.
The tie-dying doesn’t take
long. The customer picks out
what design they’d like to do and
the colors they want. The customer
soaks the shirt in a solution and
twist in the colors they want. After
all of that, they squirt the colors in
and let it sit for ten minutes. Once
the ten minutes has passed, it’s
ready to be rinsed, washed, dried
and then it’s able to wear.
“It doesn’t take that long,”
JV basketball player Kelsey Rutledge said. “I got my shirt
back the next day and was able
to wear it.”
The economy is on
Splash’d’s side because small,
local businesses are being supported
more than before because
of special incentives. Splash’d
continually seeks to offer deals
to customers.
“We offer low prices,”
Menke said. “And we offer group
prices like we did for the swim
team and basketball team.”
On top of offering group
prices, they also have special
offers for birthday parties. If a
customer plans to celebrate their
birthday at Splash’d and brings
along five or more friends, their
shirt is free.
“The atmosphere we create
keeps people coming back,”
Menke said. “We make it
friendly and a good experience
so the word about us is passed
along.”
