Up and coming band works together, makes appearances

Music flows from the room, filling the entire house. It surrounds all those inside with a sound that is not only musical, but emotional, as it captures the true meaning of friendship.

A room that is filled with Christmas decorations and over-flowing boxes of items that go untouched is enveloped by four cold concrete walls, while the captivating lyrics and notes transform a once unused basement into the stage for Screaming Glory.
“You can have friends or be on a team, but it’s nothing compared to being in a band,” lead singer and guitarist Eddy Connell said. “You all need each other and become very close.”
Friends since middle school, Connell, bassist Billy Joe “BJ” Richardson, and guitarist David Hoehn started the band in early October as something that would be fun. It was later that drummer Chris Palmer became a member.
“David had played with BJ for a long time, but one day at lunch I turned to him and said, ‘let’s do it, let’s start a band,’” Connell said. “Then we got together and got Chris two months later.”
Before Screaming Glory became a working success, current members Richardson, Hoehn, and Connell were joined by Johnny McPeak, their former drummer. However, due to hockey and other activities, McPeak was unable to continue with the band. This was when the need for a drummer arose, and Palmer was found.
“Well, they needed a drummer,” Palmer said. “They had Johnny, but that didn’t work, and I knew all of them, so they talked to me about it and I said yes.”
Along with the lineup change, the band’s success seemed to increase. Not simply because of a new drummer, but from the hard work at the weekly practices, as well as work done individually
during the week. They work independently to create new music and lyrics that can be discussed
and worked on during group practices.
“We joke around and laugh a lot. Then we play and make up new music,” Palmer said. “We put a lot of our own stuff we have together and then make songs from it.”
As a rock band, Screaming Glory has made its way from basement shows to public performances. Starting small, the band played for family and friends. Soon after, they made their way to a New Years Eve party, their portal to public playing. The band also played at Frau Fest and the Midwest Music Pit. Their biggest show will be the KOE Picnic on May 15.
“We were recommended by someone, then they talked to Eddy and we had a meeting, and they said we were good to go,” Palmer said. “We’re going to play for the first hour. We’ll play originals and covers, just give people music. It’s going to be a lot fun.”
The music has only begun, with their seven original creations as well as several cover songs by bands from the likes of Chevelle and Rise Against. The band plans to further themselves individually, in addition to as a group. Palmer has a friend with a recording studio where the band plans to record with the hopes landing a record deal. The band would like to advance musically, and someday be famous.
“My goals for me are to keep playing and get better, but for the band I want us to get big, and make a lot of money, and travel,” Richardson said. “I want to stick together as a band with no one dropping out.”
