Peterson prepares students for college math
Last Monday Sep. 21, and yesterday, Sep. 28, students of Algebra 2 classes were honored with a presentation from Dot Peterson. Peterson, a representative from St. Charles Community College, is affiliated with a special program called Achieving Success in Mathematics.
Peterson spoke of the importance of math throughout your high school experience, placement tests such as the SAT, and careful preparation for college math courses.
“My biggest goal with speaking to students is that they will start doing their own homework and stop using calculators,” Peterson said. “I also hope they sign up to take courses at SCCC during the summer and the school year. It will help them out a lot.”
In addition to coming to North two Mondays in a row, Peterson was able to visit all of the Algebra 2 classes.
“She [Peterson] helped me have a better understanding of how important it is to not cheat so when you get into college, you will be able to do well,” junior Brooke Lucas said. “And doing well on the ACT could ultimately cut some of your college hours out of the way.”
