AP Testing
Story by FHNtoday Editorial Board on January 19, 2010.
Starting May 3, CollegeBoard AP Exams begin nationwide. What does this mean for FHN students? Possibly, college credit.
AP tests are scored on a 5-point scale, five being the best score acquirable. The majority of colleges will give college credit to students who score a three or higher on any given exam, allowing them to not only receive credit, but immediately be placed into more advanced classes. AP Calculus and AP Statistics teacher Steve Willott sees an additional benefit.
“It’s an opportunity for them to see what a really challenging college level exam would be like,” Willott said.
Senior Matt Mayerhoefer is enrolled in AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish and AP U.S. History and has plans to take the AP test for all three, despite the $86 fee on each.
“[I'm taking them] to avoid finals and hopefully get college credit,” Mayerhoefer said.
