While most of our senior class is anxiously awaiting the departure to college, I’m sitting back with a big smile on my face. Throughout our teenager years, most of us have said the phase “I can’t wait to get out of here” but for me, it’s the exact opposite.
I’m not going away for college and I’m not moving out once I graduate. I’m staying at the same house I’ve known all my life and for me,
I couldn’t have made a better choice. It’s simple: I’m not ready to move away and grow up. For those of you who are ready and have been anticipating this for quite some time, reality will hit you sooner or later. The moment your parents leave and you’re on your own, it might seem like a sense of relief but only for a moment. But for many, it’s a sense of panic.
In our generation, we’re all dying to grow up that we often forget the little joys of being a teenager. Just to name a few: having our parents feed us, having them at our sports games, congratulating us on a job well done. All little things that we’ve grown up with will become just memories when we leave. My parents, like most of ours, have done everything they can to make our lives comfortable and enjoyable. I couldn’t imagine moving away for college and leaving almost everything behind. For some of you, that’s what you should do, but for others, we just aren’t ready to make that final step into adulthood. At least not yet. So I challenge you to ask yourself one thing: how ready are you?
