Football game at Fort Zumwalt East moved up for rain

Friday night’s football game, originally scheduled to be played at Fort Zumwalt East at 7 p.m., has been changed to start at 6 p.m. This decision was made in attempt to avoid a potential thunderstorm from delaying the game.

“We’re trying to give the players an extra hour to hopefully get out of it,” Activities Director Mike Janes said. “This way if we have any rain delay we’re not out here until midnight.”

The change was announced on Thursday at the end of school. Some students believe that the early start and late notice will have a negative impact on the game’s attendance.

“People are gonna think that it starts at 7 and show up then, so at least for the first hour attendance is gonna be low,” senior Ashlynn Laspe said.

Despite the potential confusion, many agree that making the game earlier was best in concerns to both time and safety.

“I want them to be able to play, but they should cancel if the weather is gonna be really bad,” Fort Zumwalt East senior Sarah Kispenmacher said. “If it is really pouring then the players are just gonna get hurt.”

According to Laspe, the early start should not have an impact on the chances FHN (0-1-0) will have against FZE (1-0-0).

“They should be ready to play no matter when it is- It’s game time,” Laspe said.
