Tropicana Lanes to host Cystic Fibrosis ‘Bowl for Breath’ event Oct. 27

On Oct. 27, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be holding their annual ‘Bowl for Breath’ at Tropicana Lanes in Clayton, Missouri, starting at 11 a.m.

At the event, people bowl two games with any team they put together (up to six people), the bowling games are just for fun, but the event includes more than bowling as well.

“There will be the bowling, a silent auction, some raffles, a Halloween costume contest, and attendance prizes,” Nicci Lowrey, who has worked with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since 2007, said.

This event is expected to have about 200 people attend and raise about $38,000 all together. In 2011, this event raised more than $32,000.

“Well we always want to raise more money and this event supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in many ways,” Kathy Griffith, bowling participant, said.

The ‘Bowl for Breath’ benefit has been held annually for 35 years. There is a $25 registration fee in order to bowl. Rental shoes are included with the registration fee.

Anyone is welcome to attend the event. There will be two bowling sessions. The first bowling session begins at 11 a.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m.

“I really look forward to showing off my bowling skills and spend time with my family and friends and just have a good time,” Maureen Pegg, who has attended this event the past two years, said.

Everyone who bowls is required to pay the $25 registration fee, but it is suggested that everyone raise $100 minimum, but there is no requirement. If participants raise more than $100, participants get a free ‘Bowl for Breath’ t-shirt.

“It’s really important that events like this do well with raising money,” Dianne Tocco, who will be attending the event the first time this year, said. “If they don’t, they won’t have anymore and we won’t be closer to a cure.”

This event is only one of many events the CF Foundation hosts throughout the year. Other events include, The Great Strides Walk, a poker night, Cycle for Life, and a CF golf tournament.

“These events are very important, because without events like this, a hope for a cure is untouchable,” Maggie Thornton, who has been to the past two bowling events, said.
