YEARBOOK PRICES INCREASE FEB. 1 – Yearbook prices for the 2013 Excalibur yearbook increase Feb. 1 to $65. Throughout the month of January, books can still be pre-ordered for their registration price of $55. After Jan. 31 though all books will go in price to $65. You can preorder a book with cash or check in the main office or in room 026. You can also order your book online with a credit card at: https://ybstore.friesens.com/stores/423728. If you’d like to see if you’ve purchased a yearbook already, you can check the list here: http://fhntoday.com/2012/09/26/did-you-buy-a-yearbook/. Book sales cut off in May and there are no extras ordered so make sure to get yours today before the price goes up and so you don’t miss out. There will be previews to the 2013 Excalibur yearbook on theFHNtoday Facebook page throughout the month of January so you can check out some of what’s to come. 1/31 ManfullFROM THE NURSES –   We have seen an increase in the number of students being seen for cold/flu symptoms. We thought it would be helpful to remind everyone of the FHSD fever policy.
Any student with a fever of 100 degrees or above will be excluded from attending school. The student should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Students who become sick at school should report to the nurse for assessment. Parents will then be contacted if the child has a fever. By students signing out with the nurse, it will help us keep track of the illnesses in our building. 1/31 Nurses

Learn a New Language with Rosetta Stone
The Francis Howell School District and Rosetta Stone have partnered to make online subscriptions available for one full yearof access for up to five levels of Rosetta Stone in the language of your choice! There are approximately 25 different languagesavailable for learners to utilize. This version of Rosetta Stone isinternet based and uses the latest voice recognition technology to assist, correct, and improve the learner’s pronunciation and enunciation of the language being learned. This extensively research-based format is friendly and intuitive for all ages of learners.  The program is available for $100 per learner. Any junior that turned in a work program application needs to go back out to the Infinite Campus portal and register for either the Marketing (0403851 & 0403852), Business (0303651 & 0303652), or the Culinary Arts (0908601 & 0908602) work programs. **Note to parents**- Fall practices start Monday, August 5, and all current 8th grade students (fall 2013 freshman) must have a physical before they can practice. To save time, please go to MSHSAA.org, and under the Sports Medicine tab, print and complete the ‘Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation’ form, and bring with you on this day. *Would you like to have an international friend? Your chance is now! FHN is looking for 20 awesome host families for our German Exchange Program. The German visitor will stay here for 2 weeks in October 2013 and American hosts will travel to Germany during the summer of 2014 for 2 weeks. PARENT NEWS
Bringing food to school for Students-due to district policy, you may only bring in food for your student. Thanks for your help in this matter. 

 

Parents should be mindful not to plan vacations or trips prior to May 31, 2013 (the last scheduled snow makeup day for the 2012-2013 school year). Second semester exams are given during the last three scheduled days of school.  Taking exams early (prior to the scheduled exam dates) is not permitted to insure the integrity of common finals. 5/31 Administrators

Pertussis Cases and Prevention

Saint Charles County has recently seen an increase in Pertussis cases, including students attending Francis Howell Schools.  Pertussis, more commonly known as “Whooping Cough,” is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air by cough. Pertussis begins with cold symptoms and a cough that becomes much worse over 1-2 weeks. Symptoms usually include a long series of coughs (“coughing fits”) followed by a whooping noise. Click here for more information. 1/25 Henry

Level Transfer and Transition Information Night for Parents of Students with Disabilities

FHSD Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will host a parent/teacher information night, “Level Transfer and Transition Night for Parents of Students with Disabilities” on Wednesday, January 30 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the Board Room of the Administration building. Click here for more information. 1/25 Henry
