Swimmers from the districts of Howell, Zumwalt, and Holt participated in GACs held at the St. Peters Rec Plex Feb. 5-7. Swimmers competed in several different events trying to qualify for state. GACs is the final meet of the season unless the swimmers qualify for state. Howell North’s Dominique Meyer will be the lone swimmer at State representing FHN. She qualified in diving. Overall, North placed 6th in the team standings.

“All day a school I could not concentrate,” sophomore Lindsey Grzeskowiak. said. “The only thing I could think about was my race and my nerves.”

Lindsey Grzeskowiak has trained all season to improve from last year. Her goals for this years GACs was to beat some of her personal records. She did just that. Grzeskowiak placed 9th in fly and 10th in free. She placed first in her heat and beat all of her current personal records.

“GACs is the last straw for the season,” Grzeskowiak said. “It shows how much you have improved from the start of the year.”

Another swimmer, junior, Megan Hampson has been swimming for eight years. During this years GACs she competed in the 100 back and 300. With 200 free being her favorite event, Hampson placed 2nd in that and 3rd in back.

“My goal was to make it to state,” Hampson said. “I didn’t make it but I am still happy about my races.”

Being a swimmer for six years Maggie Torbeck placed 7th in her 200 IM. Torbeck placed 4th in her 100 back granting her a medal.

“I am really happy with what I have done this year,” Torbeck said.
