Weekly Wyer: New Artist to Check Out

The Chain Gang of 1974, a new age “indietronica” project from musician Kamtin Mohager is currently gaining popularity and definitely is an artist to look out for. Ever since his song “Sleepwalking” was featured on one of the

most successful video games of all time, “Grand Theft Auto V,” Mohager has been gaining popularity. He recently released his newest album “Daydream Forever,” and it’s gained some definite positive criticism.

Mohager’s music can be described as an incredible mix of 80’s synth-pop and current day electronic music with lyricism that’s reminiscent of bands like Passion Pit. Mohager’s catchy hooks and interesting instrumentation grabs the listener in. In his song “Godless Girl,” Mohager repeats the hook “this godless girl” over and over. While it does seem somewhat repetitive, it grips the listener in and makes it something fun to listen to.

The Chain Gang of 1974’s discography is pretty deep, with four albums released, even though two of them are demo albums. My personal favorite from the selection is their newest album Daydream Forever. I feel it’s a great starting point for someone to get into The Chain Gang of 1974.

Catch them on tour this summer at The Demo on June 3.
