Sneaker of the Week: Supreme x Nike Foamposite One

Two weeks ago, Supreme created history by releasing the ever so anticipated “Nike x Supreme Air Foamposite One.” Foamposites, one of Nike’s classic basketball oriented shoes has seen a question begging collaboration with skate brand Supreme New York. The shoe comes in two colorways, a black and a red. Both shoes feature a “Versace inspired” gold print with minor Supreme branding.

Foamposites, being one of Nike’s best selling basketball shoes, always create a crowd, whether it be for a solid color or a galaxy print, which unfortunately caused a riot in Orlando, Florida. The Supreme release was no different. While the release wasn’t a “riot” by most standards, it definitely caused a ruckus. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this release will go down in sneakerhead history as one of the craziest releases ever.  Over 800 people showed up to the New York store in order to purchase the foams and all were unsuccessful, as the store was forced to cancel the release.

This collaboration is definitely out of the norm for supreme, as they’re known for being a skateshop, but that’s what makes it so interesting. While I don’t particularly like foamposites, I feel like Supreme successfully bridged the gap between streetwear and sportswear with this shoe.

I haven’t seen many outfits with these foams yet, as the majority of the foams were bought to be resold. The ones that I have seen are pretty good and incorporate subtle elements that highlight the foams.  My favorite so far has come from instagram user @killajuicee. His outfit incorporates designer Wil Fry’s mesh top, black denim, and the foams. The mesh top is a neutral piece that’s not over the top and keeps the foams as the center piece of the outfit while not having elements outshine each other. To me, it seems like a perfect balance between the shoes and other elements of his outfit.

While the shoe instantly sold out, you can still find them on eBay and other reselling outlets for around $450-$700. Check out our Thinglink below for more details on the shoes
