On Feb. 27 and Feb. 28, the FHN Speech and Debate team participated in the the MSHSAA Districts competition. Individually, they participated in many different events in both the Speech and the Debate categories.
“District tournaments obviously have the potential to send you to state which is a bigger and cooler tournament so it’s a little bit more competitive,” junior Emily Wilson said.
The entire team put in a great amount of effort for each of their events, and it payed off.
“The most exciting part was going into my room and giving the best speech that I could,” junior Mensur Koso said.
Though the team had no finalists for debate, there are several members moving on to the State competition on April 24 and 25 for speech events. These people included AJ Porter, Caleb Black, Priscilla Joel, Marygrace Cole, and Zoe Lawson.
Another event that took place was Readers Theatre, an approximately 30 minute act including parts from multiple different authors. This year’s cast consisted of Tessa Smith, Zoe Lawson, Lauren Hogan, Emily Wilson, Miles Theis, Luke Guerdan, Caleb Black, Marygrace Cole, Amber Pryor, Caitlind Walker, Svetlanna Fedderson, Priscilla Joel and Teresa Wooten. Together, they took an impressive first place trophy.
“I think that we had a very solid performance,” said senior Lauren Hogan.
