On March 3, government classes will be attending the Eagleton Federal Courthouse in St. Louis for the annual field trip.

“I went to a thing in the summer for teachers and they talked about the field trip and I thought it would be a great learning experience,” government teacher Kimberly Landman said. “Then that year they invited my class to do a mock trial with judges, attorneys and lawyers. The tours were also nice too.”

In the government classes kids are learning about the Judicial Branch. The field trip is supposed to help them better understand and see what they’re learning up close.

I think the trip will help us learn because we’re going to a courthouse so I think we’ll be seeing a lot of things so I guess it will help us learn about the Judicial stuff,” junior Morgan Peterson said.

Since students will be gone the entire school day they will be eating lunch at the courthouse. They have the option to purchase a meal from the courthouse’s cafeteria for $7 or bring a sack lunch.

During the trip, the students will be doing a intro activity in the Judicial Learning Center of the courthouse, observe a hearing in the District Court, and sit in on a presentation by a Deputy U.S. Marshal or a Probation and Parole Officer.

“I’m excited because I have never been to the courthouse before,” junior Alex Gray said. “I love to learn so I am excited to learn new things while there.”
