HOSA, an acronym that is much newer around the halls of FHN but is making a major impact in the school. Health Occupation Students of America, is a club that focuses on the medical side of life, and bases their activities around that.

Throughout this past school year HOSA participated/held three main events: A school wide blood drive, polar plunge, and HOSA competition.

“My favorite activity we did throughout the year was the polar plunge,” Senior Paige Ward said. “I loved supporting the Missouri Special Olympics with HOSA.”

The Polar plunge was held as Creve Coeur Park in February. All the HOSA members taking the plunge dressed up as different Disney princesses including, HOSA sponsor, Mr. Riffee. FHN HOSA even received a golden plunger for being the most spirited group at the plunge!

When it comes to planning their own events, HOSA knows how to get things done. In January HOSA students spent one school day down in the big gym as students and faculty came through to donate blood to Red Cross. The blood drive was a major success with a total of 160 successful donations.

“As a group we prepared by having meetings every other Thursday so we could plan out what would happen at the blood drive, and who would be in charge of what,” Ward said.

After all these activities, and even with the year coming to a close, some HOSA members will find themselves continuing their HOSA activities into the summer, even after graduation. Members were able to attend a state competition much like a medical version of DECA or FBLA. Those who made it to Nationals will be competing in Nashville in June.

While some are still preparing for competition, Mr.Riffee, Mrs.Hahn, and the new officers have high hopes for the year to come.

“I think our membership will really increase,” Hahn said.“But I’m most looking forward to students realizing how much fun HOSA activities and competition can be,”
