Boys Varsity Tennis 2016 Season Recap

boystennisThe FHN Varsity boys tennis team ended their season with a final winning record of 9-2 for the season. The Knights won their last match on Thursday, May 5 against Fort Zumwalt South at Fort Zumwalt South. The Knights defeated the Bulldogs in their last match with a final score of 5-2.

“My favorite part of the season was placing first in individual and team for districts,” Senior Nathan Sermersheim said. “I’m going to miss seeing and talking to all the guys I play with at practice every day.”

The FHN Varsity tennis team practiced for two hours after school every day to prepare for their matches throughout the season. The Knights placed second in the GAC tournament with only 12.5 points behind Howell placing first. FHN went on to compete in districts on Tuesday, May 10 and Thursday, May 12 at home. FHN defeated their rivals FHC with a score of 5-0 on Tuesday and FZS with a final score of 5-2 on Thursday. The Knights ended up winning Districts and moving on to Sectionals.

“I really liked volleying throughout the season,” Senior Zohaib Abro said. “I’m going to miss hanging out with everyone each day at practice.”

The Knights will compete in Sectionals on May 21 and 22 to officially end their season. According to senior Dan House, he team lost several valuable players from last year but a lot of players stepped up making up for the lost players.

“I really enjoyed playing and winning Districts, not only as a team but also in doubles,” House said. “I’m going to miss our coach, Kate Klieber and I’m going to miss playing with some of the guys on the team.”
