Wi-Fi is back at FHSD

Technology is a very big part of the generation we live in today. Most people use their electronic devices on a day to day basis, whether it is doing assignments or interacting on social media. Many things that happen in school now a days are very dependent on electronics and Wi-Fi. On March 9, 2016, FHSD blocked all iPhones and other non-school provided electronics off of the Wi-Fi. Many students and teachers were very unhappy with the blocking because they couldn’t do a lot of their school activities. On Aug. 15, the Wi-Fi was finally repaired and let students back on.

“I was so happy about them turning on the Wi-Fi” junior Jameson Gabel said. “I finally could submit assignments again from my phone and be able to reach my friends through iMessage.”

The District heard the complaints from many students about how they could not access many of their apps that they use for educational purposes including Schoology, Kahoot and Google Docs. This made it very complicated for students who didn’t have access to data to submit their assignments.

“I felt like they were taking away from our education,” senior Amanda Orlando said. “So many kids use technology nowadays and we are always on our phones.”

As of last Monday, the wifi is repaired and back to working for all of the students use. Social media apps such as Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram are still blocked from the Wi-Fi but the students’ and teachers’ school related apps can now have access to them.

“It sucks because they still have everything I use blocked,” junior Kurt Springli said. “But I can use it for school purposes and iMessage, so that is very helpful.”
