Varsity Softball 2016 Season Recap

As the 2016 softball season comes to a close, we look back on how the team performed this year. The Francis Howell North Varsity softball team had a winning record of 12-7 going into districts, and they ended with a winning record of 15-8 for the season. The Knights lost their last game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 15 in a game against Troy Buchanan. The game was the second round sectionals. The Knights were defeated 0-15. Because of this loss, the team was not able to qualify for state, and thus their season came to a close.

Although the season ended on a loss, the team still had many successes during the season such as becoming class 4 district champions by defeating Parkway North 8-6 and then Parkway Central 9-1. This is the second year in a row that the softball team have been district champions.

“My favorite part of the season was probably winning districts,” senior Taylor Beye said. “This team worked so hard all season to get to districts and beyond. It definitely payed off.”

Junior Julia Hanan agreed with Beye that her favorite part of the season was winning districts.

“It was my favorite part of the season because it was our second year in a row winning, so it was special for us. It was also a really awesome game and it was fun to be a part of.”

The varsity softball season started the first week of school in August to mid October. During the season, the team played multiple games and tournaments. Their season started off very strong when they played at the Parkway Tournament. The team typically plays very strongly in this tournament, and this year was no exception. The Knights were able to win all 4 of their games.

“Overall we did great this season,” Hanan said. “It was a really fun year with an absolutely great group of girls.”
