Around a month ago senior Emma Meyers and junior Olivia Archibald wanted to inform other people about how becoming a vegetarian will help your body for the better. Meyers and Archibald have both been vegetarians for awhile now and wanted to get the word out. So, Meyers and Archibald, with the help of Ms. Kehoe, started the Vegetarian Club.

“Hopefully, this club will educate people about all of the benefits of eating less meat, and open their mind to the idea of decreasing their meat intake,” Meyers said.

Meyers and Archibald said that being a vegetarian can help their body in more ways than one, but how? Being a vegetarian can increase energy, stamina and concentration. Also, those who are vegetarians increase their endurance about three times as much than those still eating meat. Not only is it good for your health, but Meyer and Archibald had other reasons for becoming vegetarians.

“I am a vegetarian because I believe it’s better for your body, the environment, and I view pigs and cows as some people view their cats and dogs,” Archibald stated.

The Vegetarian Club meets every other Thursday, the next meeting will be held on Nov. 17. The club had about nine girls at the first meeting and they plan on getting the word out so that numbers will increase. The other girls in the club feel just as strongly about being a vegetarian.

“I never liked meat growing up and after watching numerous documentaries on how the animals are treated and what eating meat does to your health, I decided to switch over to a more eco-friendly lifestyle,” senior Emma Chilcoat said.

Meyers and Archibald plan on doing some fundraising with the club. They want to raise money and awareness for animal rights, charities and the club. They also are trying to have Sodexo offer more vegetarian options in the lunchroom. Lastly, some girls in the club were excited about sharing recipes, bringing in vegetarian foods and talking about tips and just being a vegetarian overall.

“I am really excited because we have an idea to have a vegetarian dinner in the cafeteria, our plan is to sell tickets and anyone can come and enjoy some meals that replace meat,” Meyers said, “I am just excited to see if people come and have a different outlook on vegetarian meals.”
