Boys Varsity Soccer Defeats Eureka on Nov. 5

Boys+Varsity+Soccer+Defeats+Eureka+on+Nov.+5

On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Boys Varsity Soccer team beat Eureka 2-1 in double overtime with a game winning penalty kick by Husam Hamdan. The first half of the game the Knights held possession. They hit the post three times, but let up a goal near the end of the first half.

“Even after the goal we still dominated the play and created chances for ourselves,” said senior Jesse George.

As the second half came around the Knights stuck with their game plan to hold possession and stayed persistent in order to get the win.

“The atmosphere was definitely intense because we knew there was a lot at stake,” said senior Torrion Robinson.

The stands were packed with well over one hundred students and that’s not including the parents and teachers. Playing Eureka proved a challenge for the boys as they played a very good defense and held the Knights to only one goal, up until the final overtime. The final seconds were all it took for the win.  The field was dead silent as Hamdan made his penalty kick and then the crowd went insane. The last two overtimes were a “dogfight,” but the Knights kept pushing and managed to come out with the win on their home field.

“The atmosphere was electric, soccer doesn’t really receive a lot of attention so it was great seeing so many kids there to support, the atmosphere was great,” George said.

The game was over 120 minutes long and was the “most intense” game of the season.  The boys now have a game on Friday, Nov. 11.  It will be held at Fenton Soccer Park at 2pm and will be against CBC. This is a final four elimination game, so it’s all or nothing.

“Definitely come support us Friday, were a great team and were not done yet,” said Robinson.
