College Signing Day on Feb. 1 [Photo Gallery]

High School students from all over the country commit to athletic scholarships on National Signing Day, which is Feb. 1. FHN continued this tradition by holding their Signing Day in the auditorium after school. The students got to sign a contract and get their pictures taken with their family and coaches.

Mike Janes, FHN’s activity director, said he wanted to make this day special for all the students and it was also an opportunity to show the underclassmen athletes what they can aspire to.

There were 10 student athletes signing that day which included: Kate Doerhoff for volleyball at William Woods, Samantha Donaldson for soccer at University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Louis Gianopulos for track at Columbia College, Donnell Hawkins for football at Missouri Western, Malik Johnson for football at University of Concordia – Ann Arbor Michigan, Peter Lucido for swim and dive at University of Missouri-Columbia, Allison Murphy for softball at Jefferson County Community College, Sam Neely for football at Coe College (Iowa) and Amanda Orlando for soccer at Southeast Missouri University.

Each student got a bag, a FHN flag to hang in their college dorm and a Signing Day t-shirt. There was refreshments afterward which consisted of cupcakes baked by the culinary class and bottled water.
