6-2 Graduation Ceremony at Lindenwood University [Photo Gallery]

On June 2, the FHSD schools graduated at Lindenwood University on the football field. The previous plans to hold graduation at the Family Arena were scratched after a EF3 tornado damaged the arena the night before the ceremony. Graduation was cut down for time constraints to avoid traffic as the next school came in. Ashley Flerlage delivered the only student speech, ‘The Real Generation Z’, diplomas were presented. Math teacher Steven Willott was chosen as the graduation marshal by the seniors. Senior class President Murphy Riley presented Principal Darlene Jones a faux diploma in recognition of her last year at FHN. North graduation started at noon, followed by Howell at 3:30 p.m. and Central at 6:00 p.m. In all, the entire ceremony for North was about an hour and a half. On Sunday, June 2nd, hundreds of Seniors from the Francis Howell School District graduated at Lindenwood University. It was there, that the class of 2013 walked down the stadium, to obtain their high school deploma. Below are a series of time lapses created throughout the day, for each of the Howell schools. The video order follows the order of the graduating schools.

A time lapse of Francis Howell North’s graduation for the class of 2013, held at Lindenwood University on June 2nd. Watch the entire ceremony, sped up around 100 times faster. Graduation for the class of 2013 was originally scheduled for June 1st, but due to the storm that took place the evening of May 30, Francis Howell school district graduation ceremonies were rescheduled for June 2nd.

Due to the storm that took place the evening of May 30, Francis Howell school district graduation ceremonies were rescheduled for Today, June 2, 2013. North’s ceremony was held at Lindenwood University’s football stadium at noon. The ceremonies were rescheduled due to storm damage at the Family Arena, the event’s original destination. The storm damaged the Family Arena’s roof, leading to the postponement. Cleanup after the storm carried on well after Saturday evening. Several areas were effected by the storm, including homes, businesses, and neighborhoods. The Family Arena sustained a significant amount of damage due to the storm. The All-Knighter lock-in took place as originally scheduled on Saturday evening. Francis Howell North did not sustain significant structural damage during the storms, and the event was able to continue as planned.

Residents of St. Charles County were shaken during a thunderstorm and tornado, during the evening of May 30. The storm swept through the Harvester area around 8 p.m. knocking down trees and powerlines. An estimated 100,000 residents are without power as of 10 a.m. Saturday. Francis Howell North’s graduation ceremony that was scheduled for today has been postponed to unknown date due to storm damage at the Family Arena. “Foods” classes cook one last time

Last week, the International Foods 2 and Culinary Arts teacher, Rebecca Just, who has worked at FHN for sixteen years, had her students decorate cakes. This week, the students were able to cook one final time, making cinnamon rolls.

“There was a cake decorating earlier this week that went went absolutely fantastic,” said Just.

On Friday, the class made it’s last meal together, homemade cinnamon rolls. Just said that for the most part, the cooking went well. Although some groups killed their yeast, Just thinks it went well because the kids got to enjoy cooking and eating them.

For the remainder of the year, students will be trading their aprons in for wash clothes. The students will clean their stations then hit the books as they prepare themselves for the final.

Fall Sports teams prepare for the next season

The school year ending and the heat rolling in means only one thing to athletes: summer workouts. Football, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, Cross Country and Softball have a season to prepare for. Not only does the fall sports teams prepare, but so do the winter teams. It’s a big deal for these athletes to not only look their best for summer, but also gain skills that will help in them in their season. Every sport usually has a camp during the summer to keep the skills fresh and to get the athletes pumped. The camps usually cost and help pay for expenses of the season, but the everyday workouts are free.

“I love our workouts, because it helps us all get bigger and better before the season. I think it also helps us get pumped for the season.” said Junior Corey Bruns. Bruns plays offensive and defensive line for the Knights Football team. With not winning one game last year, the team has high hopes for the season. “I think we should be better this year than last. We definitely left ourselves some room for improvement and I am looking forward to putting in some work this year. I would like to go out with a winning record but we will see how it goes”, said Bruns.”I know we’re going to miss our seniors, but hopefully the underclassmen will step into their shoes and help the team.”

The Girl’s Volleyball team is also very excited about their season, with having so many returning members and only losing two of their seniors. The girls have workouts 3 times a week. They also go to a Rolla college summer camp, where they work drills, conditioning, and participate in tournaments around the state to face off against other high schools before the season starts.

“I think the Rolla tournament is a really good thing for our program. We [the girls] all enjoy it, and we learn a lot from it. It helps get us back into volleyball mode for the upcoming season. I am especially looking forward to this year, because we lost only two seniors so theres a lot of us coming back with experience already.”

Weight Training Work Out [Gif]

On May 21, junior Logan Bergman does his work out in the weight room. His favorite machine is the Cable Pull-Down. This machine works his triceps and helps increase his power on the volleyball court. Bergman hopes to improve on his strength so he can help the team make it to state for his senior year. (jimmy higgins)

Junior Tyler Ludwig does some 20 pound curls in weight training. He really enjoys working out, and likes to keep his strength up for baseball. According to fellow classmates he is a hard worker.

Coach Gregory’s Freshman Gym Class has a free day and several of the students set up a pick up game. There were several players from FHN’s basketball teams in the class, and the gym teachers enjoyed spectating the game. Things were really heating up according to spectator Tyler Ludwig.
