North and Duchesne fans will head to the hockey game on Dec. 21
to watch the teams play. This year, however, the scene will be a little different in the new Rec Plex center.
This new addition, located behind the main building, contains two gymnasiums, a training center, and two hockey rinks.
“It’s awesome,” head coach Tim Wilkinson said. “Hands down it’s the best facility in St. Louis. Visiting teams rave about it.”
The players agree that the new facility tops all others.
“It’s a lot nicer,” senior Chris Knobbe, a forward on the varsity team, said. “The lockers are a lot nicer and I have a lot more fun there.”
For the team, the $18.5 million center has been an improvement from last year. Because there are two extra rinks, the team is able to practice right after school instead of going to late night practices.
“I really like it,” Knobbe said. “It has a lot more seats and we get a lot more fans.”
The main rink now holds 1,200 people, which has increased the number of fans attending the games.
“The atmosphere is really good for them,” Wilkinson said. “It gets them psyched up to play and it’s like being in a real arena.”
