Lady Knights basketball say goodbye to seniors

As the buzzer goes off, the four seniors on the Lady Knights basketball team realize they are one game closer to the end of the season.

“I’m really sad,” Varsity basketball player Natalie Ganousis said. “I’m going to miss them [the players] a lot.” Ganousis has played basketball since third grade and has played on the Varsity team at North for two years.
Ashton Whitehurst, another senior on the team, also shares the same emotions as Ganousis.

“It sucks because after this there is nowhere else to go,” Whitehurst said. “Yeah I want to play in college, but high school is so much more laid back. It is definitely a reality check that I’m not coming back next year.”

Like Ganousis, Whitehurst has played basketball for about ten years. She swung up for Varsity her freshmen year and played officially on the team for three more years.

As the seniors gather up their strength to leave the team, junior Lauren Cooke looks forward to making the senior girls proud next year with how they play.

“I like all the seniors,” Cooke said. “They have really helped me become a better player. If I could say one thing to them it would be that I love them and good luck next year in college. The team won’t be the same without you.”
At press time the Lady Knights had a record of 13-11, finishing over .500.
The Lady Knights played Wentzville- Holt Fri, Feb. 8 in Wentzville and won. The final score was 52-32 and the girls were proud of their win and the season that has kept them together.

“Chemistry and working together was what got us to where we are right now,” Vogt, who has been playing for 10 years, said.

With a score of 33-57, the team lost their first tournament game against Borgia. The St. Francis Borgia Tournament started Mon, Jan. 28 and ended Sat, Feb. 2. The Lady Knights played in the consolation bracket and achieved fifth place in the tournament.

“The best thing about this year was coming from a previous record of 5-21,” Hahn said. “The team has worked really hard.”
