PLAN test moves to the big gym

At 7:25 this morning sophomore homeroom classes packed up their stuff

and filed into the gym to take the Plan test. All sophomores for the past three years have taken this Act pre-test, only this year instead of staying in classrooms; all 10th grade students were seated at tables in the large gym.

“It was crazy to see all those tables in the gym when we walked in,” sophomore Jordyn Bruening said. “I couldn’t believe they were going to try to fit every sophomore in there, but they did.”

Once everyone was seated with a test booklet and a pencil the test began. Each section was timed. The test lasted until the end of the day.

“The hardest part of the test was that it was timed, so I felt a little pressured that I had to do good in a short amount of time, but I think I did ok,” sophomore Bryan Rhoades said.

This test acts as an ACT pre-test for students. Researchers for American College Testing have linked students Plan scores to how they will do on the ACT. Questions mirror ACT test questions, and students who take the plan test are expected to score one to two points higher on the ACT.

“It’s the students that get something from the test,” Principal Dr. Jones said. “It’s not about the school. It’s all about students being successful.”

When students receive results in the winter season, counselors go over the results of the test with parents and students and dig deeper into them to find the right career path for the student.

“Since it was practice, I think I’m more prepared for the ACT when I have to take it,” Bruening said. “When we get the results we’ll be able to see what we can expect to get on the ACT with the scores we get. I think some people will take it seriously, but not everyone.”
