Every year Volunteer Knights holds a hat day for the school and this year the first one was today.
Anybody can wear a hat if they donate $1 in their first hour. And if students forgot to bring a hat to school today, they were still able to donate $1 and get a bracelet to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
“I think hat day is a great idea, because a lot of students want to wear hats and this gives them the chance to,” junior Danielle Schmidle said. “[However], I think some people don’t participate only because they forget to bring $1 and a hat.”
Different hats were worn today such as baseball caps and crazier ones like those found at Six Flags. The money Volunteer Knights collects on the various hat days goes to different organizations each time.
“There are a lot of organizations that need donations and every little bit counts and can help,” sponsor Kellie Hausner said.
Steve Willott’s first hour class, which was the class that donated the most money, will receive donuts for breakfast.
