Proving to yourself can make you stronger

“I can’t do this.”
“There’s no point in even trying.”

“Nobody thinks I’m good at it anyways.”
I bet you’ve thought at least one of those things in your head in the past two weeks. I know I have. I’ve thought those things with almost everything I do in my life. And don’t say you haven’t – it’s only human. It’s human to have doubts about yourself. It’s human to think you’re not as good as everyone else. It’s a miracle when humans can push past those negative thoughts and prove to themselves, and everyone else, that they can do it.
Whether it’s math class, history, softball, football, dancing, writing, or even mountain climbing, always tell yourself you can do it. Because if you love it, why give up?
You don’t have to be good at something to love it. I see so many people give up on things just because they don’t think they can do it. The worst part is, most of the time, it’s really something they love.
You might be an artist at heart, but you can’t exactly produce a Picasso. Maybe you dream of being a dancer, but just can’t seem to get the beat right.
That should just be that much more motivation to keep going. So you’re not great at it now, but if you give up on it, you’ll never know if it could’ve taken you somewhere.
There are tons of things I could have given up on: dancing, newspaper, running, podcast, writing. We all have times that we just want to throw away everything and stop trying in life. I’ve had plenty.
But those are the times that make you stronger. Pushing past those feelings and proving to yourself that you can do better feels a lot better than giving up and complaining about it.
So the next time you’re looking at yourself in the mirror thinking, “I can’t do this,” don’t listen. Challenge yourself to keep going. Challenge yourself to work harder. Challenge yourself to practice more.
When you really think about it, it just doesn’t make sense to give up on something that makes you happy. You do it to make you happy, not someone else. So, why give up? Tell yourself:
“Doing this makes me happy.”
“I just need to keep trying.”
“I can do this.”
