With the election coming in only a couple of months, the Young Republicans Club has been actively involved with the John McCain campaign. Whether it’s walking door-to-door, or calling people at random, the group is determined to get their word out.
The club holds meetings every Wednesday morning where they discuss current events and the next thing on their agendas. They are already involved in the campaign at the St. Charles Republican Headquarters. About 15 students were able to attend the rally in T.R. Hughes Ballpark where most of them met the candidate himself.
The director for the rally campaign, Kaileigh Dean, also came in to speak to the group.
“I think it’s awesome because this is one of the most historic elections in history,” sponsor Heather Box said. “It’s great that so many young kids are getting involved, no matter who they are voting for.”
Sarah Palin’s Vice President nomination has also made people view the election differently.
“She brings youth to the Republican Party,” junior member Ellen Ransom said. “She brings something fresh and new that people want, but still sticks with conservative morals.”
The Young Republicans strive to show others why they should vote for their party.
“[If someone were to vote for Obama], I would ask if they actually know why, or if they just want the party change,” senior member Jim Rueschhoff said. “When you ask most people, they don’t know.”
