The seniors get the privilege of wearing togas to school during class colors day of spirit week, even though the togas break some of the dress codes.
“I don’t have a problem because it’s part of our senior tradition,” Darlene Jones said, who has worked at Francis Howell North for 13 years. “They just have to follow the dress code and not let too much show. They [togas] don’t violate anything unless they show too much bare skin, and usually that means upper body.”
Many of the seniors didn’t even consider that a toga was breaking dress code when they wore them that day.
“I wore a toga because for four years you watch all of the seniors before you wear togas, and I like to represent my class,” senior class president Jordyn Klackner said.
Not all of the seniors wore togas. Some forgot, some didn’t want to, and others just wore their actual class color.
“I forgot,” said Tyler Compton. “At least I wasn’t cold today,” he said with a smile on his face.
Students in other grades enjoy toga day also.
“It’s a cool tradition that everyone looks forward to when they’re a senior,” junior Robby Friedlein said.
The togas are a fun experience to make, wear, and show off on class colors day.
“I like all of the school spirit ideas because that’s what makes it more fun to come to school,” Jones said. “I think we’ve had a great spirit week.”
