The Homecoming game on Friday night against Troy was ended in a 35-25 loss to the Trojans.
The Knights spent the week before preparing for the game in hopes of improving their record to 3-3 on the year.
“We watched game film, studied tendencies, analyzed personnel match ups, and reviewed the game plan,” Coach Brune said. “I want us to play mistake free.”
The players felt the same intensity as the coaches to get prepared for the game.
“We’re more psyched up for this game because we haven’t won homecoming in three years,” Merrill said.
The game began on a sour note as the Trojans scored on their opening possession within the first minute of the game starting putting them ahead 6-0. The Knights ensuing possession resulted in a turnover, which lead to another Troy touchdown and a two-point conversion increasing their lead to 14-0. After another Knights turnover, the Trojans capitalized with a touchdown ending the first quarter 21-0.
The second quarter started better for the Knights after they scored when quarter back Jake Schneider made a long first down run putting them deep inside Trojan territory. The Knights scored another touchdown gaining on Troy 21-13 at the end of the second half.
As the second half began the Knights gave up an interception to Troy but the Knights forced a punt and later scored 21-19. Troy blocked a Howell North punt on the eight-yard line and scored a touchdown few plays later 28-19.
In the fourth quarter both the Trojans and the Knights scored a touchdown each but it wasn’t enough for the Knights to make a comeback. The final score was 35-25 Troy, improving their season record to 4-2.
