Swimmers have high expectations following last season

Due to the impressive records from last year, this season’s swim team has their goals set high. Starting Nov. 17, the team will meet at the Rec-Plex every night at 8 to try out and prepare for upcoming events.

The team is currently anticipating the Panther Relays held on Dec. 19 by Fort Zumwalt North.

“I’m very excited about this event because it gives kids a chance to compete in different areas and win more medals,” swim coach William Crow said.

Last year, the team placed well in the GAC conference, took first several times at relay meets, and sent senior Lauren Thrasher to State. With all these positives from last year, the swim team is already off to a good start for another season.

“I’m hoping we will be able to break more records because we have more base swimmers,” Crow said. “I also heard there are some talented freshmen coming in.”

Each swimmer can swim two individual events and two relays in all competitions. The first few months will be when swimmers work on endurance and strokes. Towards the end of the season, the team usually reviews what they have learned and focuses more on events. Twenty-four swimmers are predicted to be on the team this year, all of which have high hopes and a passion for the sport.

“There is nothing better than when you get out of the pool and see those girls proud that you did a good job,” senior Caitlin Stone said. “I really hope to bond more with them this year and keep our good records.”
