Wrestlers do well in first tri-meet

Wednesday, Dec. 10, the Knights wrestling team took on both Fort Zumwalt West and Timberland, in their home opener and first triple dual. The Knights beat Timberland by a score of 40-30. However, they lost to West by a score of 39-20.

“This is the first time we did a tri-meet,” Head coach Harold Ritchie said. “It was hard to keep track of what was going on. It was harder to keep momentum going. We had our chances at some pretty good kids. Some of our kids kept it respectable, some got pounded, and there is nothing you could do about it.”
Although some of the wrestlers did struggle, the Knights had strong matches from sophomore Jason Shell, who won both his matches (one by pin, one by points) and senior Alex Cassetta, who pinned his first opponent, but lost in the last 30 seconds of his second match to FZW State-qualifier Chase Houdashelt.
“We did good,” Shell said. “We should have won more matches than we did. I didn’t do as good as I should have, I wasn’t setting anything up. I just dove in.”
The Knights next match is a tournament that takes place in Cape Girardeau on Dec. 19-20.
