The JV cheerleading squad took first place at the Wentzville-Timberland competition on Dec. 6th. The squad also received a bid for nationals, but unfortunately won’t be able to attend. Although the squad won the competition, their coach still has several goals for them.
“My goal for the squad is to basically stay unified as a team and be prepared for try outs,” coach Erica Gittemeier said. “I hope that they are able to move up to the Varsity squad next year.”
Along with the excitement of cheering for the basketball games and wrestling matches, the fliers of the squad have found personal pride. Kayla Lanier, Abby Rollins, and Jasmine Park can now do their own back handsprings. These stunts took each of them about a year to master, and the squad couldn’t be happier.
“It is a pretty big deal because of how long they have been trying,” Gittemeier said. “It will also help them with their try outs for the Varsity level.”
