It will happen and you will probably miss it. I bet you missed it three years ago. I bet you’ll miss it again this year. But you most likely don’t know it’s even happening.
On Dec. 31 something extraordinary will happen. It may happen again in six months or it may happen seven years from now. Only time will tell. That’s the very thing that will be affected, time.
Time will stand still for one second exactly. This may of happened in 2005 but it is only the 24th time it’s ever happened in history. Not only is it that but by adding this second, 2008 will be the longest year since 1992.
The reasoning for adding this second onto the clock is because the Earth’s rotation is slowing down and time isn’t. I never thought it possible to be able to change time – let alone stop it. But it is possible, it happens. And all the while, we just continue living our lives without ever feeling the effect.
But this year, I’m going to pay attention because now I know. Time can, and will, stand still. I will remember where I was at 5:59.59 p.m. Maybe, if I’m fast enough, I can be in two places at once.
