DiMarco receives all-metro honors

Determination, hard work and perseverance are just three of the many things that junior Nick DiMarco has to keep in his mind for football. Year by year, DiMarco has worked hard, pushed himself to and over his limits. His 2008-09 Varsity football season was his best football season yet.

On Dec. 26, DiMarco received an all-metro award, which means he is considered one of the best players at his particular position in the metropolitan areas in Illinois and Missouri. DiMarco got it for being an outstanding all-purpose player.  The people who determined this decision were select coaches from Missouri and Illinois, as well as writers from the Post-Dispatch.

“It was a great accomplishment that I really had to work hard for,” DiMarco said.

Taylor Bynedom. who graduated last year, got this same award but for his skills at defensive line. DiMarco is the only one player from North to ever get it for all-purpose, but he is the second junior ever at North to receive the all-metro award. Every player that plays Varsity is eligible to be acknowledged for the honor. DiMarco has a plaque in the boys’ locker room stating his name, picture and position he got it for.

“It’s pretty nice to get the plaque because it seems like most people notice it when you go into the locker room,” DiMarco said.

This is not the only accomplishment Nick has reached this past year. He’s also broken the old school record of 544 receiving yards, with 643 yards. He tied the record for most catches, which is 32. Also in North’s conference, DiMarco was acknowledged for having the second most sacks, second most receiving yards, and led the conference with the highest kick-off average.

Next year, DiMarco is determined to break the school record for all time receiving yards, and also being selected for all-state and all-metro. He also hopes for a better team record in the upcoming season.
