Wrestlers ‘step up’ at Zumwalt East

On Jan. 10 the Knights wrestling team traveled to Fort Zumwalt East for the GAC tournament. Once again, the Knights wrestled well but due to a many openings in their roster, they placed fifth out of seven teams. Six of the Knights’ 10 wrestlers placed.

“Well, we had a lot of people step up,” head coach Harold Ritchie said. “They put themselves in the medal rounds. The main problem was the final round; we had two going for first and one going for third. So we will have to concentrate on staying focused and wining those matches.”

Sophomores Sam Stewart and Tom Foley finished fourth as well as senior Tyler Lutz. Senior Alex Cassetta placed third, junior Jeff Shell and sophomore Jason Shell placed second.

“My first round was a bye,” Jason Shell said. “So I only got to wrestle two people, I wasn’t warmed up and ready for my finals match.”
