From Feb. 4-8, Cirque du Soleil performed “Saltimbanco” (leaps or mounts upon a bench), which traveled from Montreal to the St. Charles Family Arena.
If you have never seen a performance of Cirque du Soleil, you would be surprised. There are no animals or rings; it is not your typical circus. Each Cirque du Soleil presents a different circus style from around the world, each with its own central theme.
“Saltimbanco” consists of many colors, which were Marti Gras-like, and people who contorted their bodies into unimaginable positions, while making it look painless. There were acrobats who hung by only a rope, did synchronized flips, balanced on top of each other, and did other amazing stunts. The performers of Cirque de Soleil have unbelievable strength, agility and balance.
This show included a humorous side as well. Mimes performed, often using members of the audience in their act. For example, the audience would have to copy the mimes movement. The audience was also drawn into the performance through continuous live music.
If you ever get a chance to catch Cirque du Soleil, make every effort to go see it.
