Next year’s football team already looking ahead

Loud music, clanking coming from the weight room. This can only mean one thing; the football team is working out and building their strength, and getting ready to prepare to take down their opponents in their 2009-10 season. The Knights’ off-season workout schedule is every Monday through Friday, excluding Wednesdays, and starts at 3 p.m. and ends when their coaches say it’s time to go home.

“The goal for the off-season is to have 80 percent of next season’s aspiring players to come and attend 80 percent of the time,” coach John Brune said.

The whole point of the after school commitment is to keep the players in shape, and build them up, both individually and as a team. Also to make them work harder, and to make them more time efficient, recently the weight room has acquired some new equipment.

“The new equipment has benefited us because the movements are different, and it makes the players motivated to work hard,” Brune said.

Right now, the football team has 20 juniors that will be seniors next year. This year they lost nice seniors. Both the team, as well as the coaches, have high expectations for next year’s football season. So until then, the Knights are going to continue to put a lot of effort into the off-season, so that it will pay off when it’s time to step back on the field.
