‘Unborn’ had potential to thrill, but failed

When I went to see Unborn, I wasn’t really sure what type of movie it was going to be, the previews hadn’t given much away. Was it going to be an M. Night Shyamalan-like move – all story, no scares – or was it going to be a movie like Hostel – absolutely no story, just thrills. I didn’t know; and after I saw it, I still wasn’t sure.

Unborn was about a girl who finds out she was a twin, and spends the rest of the the movie trying to ward off an evil demon version of her dead brother. While the storyline was mildly interesting (there were some cool flashback scenes to World War II), it wasn’t played up nearly as much as it could have been. One of the main things that ruined it were the little pop-out/scary parts that came up every 15 minutes which, while OK at first, eventually got annoying.

Even though the story was OK, it wasn’t really choreographed that well at all. About halfway through the movie the story lost its flow completely. Scenes coming up became predictable; I knew five minutes in advance who and when someone was going to die. My friend actually ended up playing “Cube Runner” on his iPod Touch because he was so bored.

This movie had the potential to be good; it had some interesting parts, but mostly it lost my attention. I thought that it could have either had a great storyline, or it could have been a great thriller. However it seemed like they tried to do both of these things at the same time, which ruined the whole thing.  I had high hopes for it, but it let me down. There goes $8 I’ll never get back.
