On Tuesday, Feb. 24, some students roam the halls, coming and going from class to class with their Mardi Gras beads around their necks. Feb. 24 is Fat Tuesday which is the English translation for Mardi Gras.
Over the weekend, many people went to downtown St. Louis to celebrate on the streets. Students attending the festivities and celebrating after the holiday usually got their beads from stores in places like downtown St. Louis, Soulard, or Delmar.
“I got [my beads] down in Soulard,” senior Dan Linder said.
Every year, the festivities start on Jan. 6 and continue until the beginning of Lent at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday. Fat Tuesday always occur the day before Ash Wednesday.
