Dulaney believes small lies aren’t half bad

Is lying really such a horrible thing? Don’t get me wrong, lying to keep yourself out of trouble probably isn’t good. But a little white lie every now and again can’t hurt.

For example, if someone asks me if I like their sweater, and just the sight of it makes me want to vomit, I’ll tell them. I have no problem with that. But when they say that their grandmother knitted it for them and it’s their favorite sweater then of course I’m going to say it’s nice. Why crush them? It’s not a huge crisis that I made them feel better about their sweater, even if it was just a little bit dishonest.

Telling the truth has burned me more than once. I had an opinion on something and it really hurt someone’s feelings. Why would I continue to tell the truth if all it does is make people think I am cruel? I’d much rather keep my mean thoughts to myself and fib a little. So sue me.
