Earth prepares to ‘fall back’ with daylight

Every second Sunday of March, daylight saving time beings at 2 a.m. On every second Sunday in November, daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. On March 8, it will be the beginning of daylight saving time for this year.

On March 8, everyone in the United Stated will turn their clocks forward one hour, which means we will lose an hour of our night, except Arizona (excluding Navajo Nation) and Hawaii. They stay on standard time along with many other countries in the world, one of which is South Korea. At one point they did have daylight savings time, but now they don’t, but starting in 2010 they will bring it back.

This year Samoa started doing daylight savings, although they are doing it from a different time period (Oct. 4, 2009 till March 28, 2010) and only for two years they are hoping it will help save energy, create leisure time, and increase economic growth.

Daylights savings time came about to save time because many people believed that the sunlight was being wasted and people liked the summer sunlight, so by creating daylight saving time, it made it so we would have more sunlight because many people are asleep when the sun rises, so daylight savings time makes it seem like the sun is rising an hour later, giving us more time.

As a reminder, fire safety officials in countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States use the two time changing days to encourage people to check the batteries of detectors in their home, office, and anywhere that may contain fire alarms and smoke detectors.

This year about 10,000 trained dentists and their staff will be using the week of daylights saving time to refresh their safety procedures. It is hosted by DOCS Education, the nation’s leading trainer of sedation dentists. Starting March 9 till March 13 each day will have a theme for dentists to follow.

In 2010 daylight saving time will begin on March 14 and end on Nov. 7. Don’t forget to change your clock this coming weekend. Even though you are loosing an hour of sleep, you will have longer summer nights of sun.
