Wuertenberg hopes to grab students’ attention with amplification

Traci Wuertenberg takes it in her own hands to have an experiment in her class room. An amplified classroom is the new experience going on in the North building.

“I think it grabs their attention and what I am saying,” Wuertenburg said. “I think it will have them understand what is important in the lesson.”
Wuertenburg is still working out the kinks; for example, where to hook the mic so it picks up her voice. Some kids are still getting used to it and some appreciate it. Other districts are beginning to use this technology, but right now there is no conclusive data that proves effectiveness of using an amplified classroom, Wuertenburg explains. The classroom is an experiment that Wuertenburg took in her own hands to try and see if something would help and improve students’ learning.
“It would be pretty good, and still grab my attention, and hear details the teacher says because it is loud,” Arianna Pagan said.
Pagan likes and enjoys the amplified classroom, but she says it is sometimes loud and annoying. There is not a lot of kids sleeping in the class anymore because the sound keeps them awake and gets their attention. Pagan loves to be one of the few students to get the chance to be a part of the new classroom experience. As Wuertenburg gives instructions to the class about there assignment with To Kill A Mockingbird, all the kids are focused on the teachers instructions and are paying more attention. The class is going to experience the amplified classroom till the end of the year and Wuertenburg will see how it impacted the students and how it will help other students in the future.
“She is a good teacher and it is good if you are in the back of the class, it is nice and loud,” Pagan said, reading To Kill a Mockingbird.
