Junior asks America to reevaluate itself

“I miss Mayberry sitting on a porch drinking ice cold Cherry Coke, where everything is black and white; picking on a six string, people pass by and you call them by the first name watching the clouds roll by.” Famous lyrics of a song called “Mayberry” by Rascal Flatts.

They’re lyrics that paint a picture of a simple life; a life that no longer exists. What happened to that? “The good ol’ days,” where people lived in small towns, Sunday was for church and family, there were actual families out there. And the families consisted of two parents living together, so that kids didn’t have to pick who they lived with. Life was simple then, life was lived instead of rushed through.

Conversations took place face to face the way they should be. Nowadays we don’t even call the person we want to talk to, people either use email or texting to contact each other. Humans have lost all manners and people skills to modern day technology, because who needs to be nice when you can type “lol” after anything making any harmful words or phrases seem like a joke even though they weren’t

And it’s not just the way of communication that’s changed for the worse, it’s the conversations as well; curse words, foul language and perverted talks about sex surround the public ear constantly, there is no public place that you can go to without hearing such language. Even at religious places you can find talk consisting of such words. The worse thing about this though, is not that it’s in public places but that it is filling the homes of people. Homes in which the children of our future are being raised. And with such talk at home, kids tend to find this type of language acceptable and then spread it around to others. Back in the “good ol’ days” this type of talk was nonexistent; talk was humane, clean, and family-friendly. Families could go out in public and not worry about what there children heard.

Along with the downfall of humans’ verbal skills came the downfall of people’s morals. America has become a country in which the majority of the population has lost all concern for what is acceptable and what their morals should be. In the “good ol’ days” sex was a special, private thing shared between two people in a marital relationship who were in love. Nowadays, sex is thrown around like a hot potato; it passes from person to person in seconds. Teens are sleeping around casually with people and are finding no wrong in doing so, and although they are the ones committing the acts, it’s unfair to credit them with all the blame. Media uses sex like it’s going out of style; you find sex in ads, on TV shows, on billboards, magazines – it’s everywhere.  And with seeing sex be used so often and depicted as nothing more then a good time, young adults and teens believe sex is truly just a good time with no consequences.

The human race – at least the American population – has become a bunch of selfish, technology-craving sex addicts. No one ever stops and holds open the door to someone with their hands full, no one says please and thank you anymore, everyone is always in a rush, on a quest to fulfill their personal needs and not those of others. Everyone is running a race that has no end. People need to stop every once in a while and smell the flowers, just look around at nature, compliment someone. People need to realize life is too short to waste on meaningless things; we as a people need to evaluate what things are and aren’t of true importance. Because it’s things like politeness, consideration, family, and un-materalistic things that are what truly matter.
