As most kids walk into each class, they sit down at their desk, grab a pencil, and prepare for class, but for Spectra on every Wednesday, there is a different scenario.
Each Wednesday, the kids walk into class to fresh hot dogs made by the Spectra teacher, Jon Travis.
“It’s a good opportunity for the kids to get together and have fellowship because they don’t all get to see each other,” Travis said. “[And for me] it attracts a lot of people to homeroom and I get a chance to see people that can’t take this as a class.”
The whole idea of the hot dogs was actually a bribary several years ago to encourage the kids to do well on their MAP tests, but it turned out to be something the kids really enjoyed.
“It’s a very nice experience to see all my friends I don’t always get to,” senior Morgan Boudreau said. “And it’s nice because I don’t have to bring my lunch on those days.”
Although the students indeed like it because the hot dogs are cheap at $2, they understand the literal meaning of it as well.
“It is awesome becauase it encourages us to do better on the MAP tests and raise our schools tests scores,” senior Daniel Kirkpatrick said.
