Jobs: Too much to handle in high school?

Multi tasking is a key tool and component used in the everyday life of a high schooler. However, when it comes to teens juggling school as well as a job, a common question is often argued. How much is too much?

Parents and students alike have different views and opinions on whether or not teens in high school should have a job, in addition to going to school work and extra curricular activities.

I can see where some might deter away from the idea because they worry about the work load put on kids. It’s rue, there are only so many hours in a day and growing up can be a difficult job all in itself. Yet, I personally think balancing the two is a great idea.

Learning how to manage a high GPA in school and earn money by working starts to build good fundamentals that are needed as kids mature in life. If a student decides to take on a job, I’ve come to understand they learn the importance of time management since there is less time to waste on not doing homework. These habits are ideal ones to learn early in life to make things easier for yourself.

Then there’s the main reason teens wish to work: money. Understanding the value of a dollar and how quickly money runs out is a difficult lesson to learn. By earning their own money and making their own way, teens are less likely to depend on their parents and more likely to become independent young adults. There is also the likelihood that with less time on their hands teens are less bound to get into trouble and stay focused on future goals. All in all I think that going to school plus maintaining a job can only help students in school as well as begin to build a good work ethic in life.
