Finally something worth really celebrating about – well for soccer players at least! This past Saturday, the new U.S. women’s soccer league held their inaugural game at SIUE in Edwardsville, Illinois at the Korte Stadium.
The St. Louis Athletica played the Chicago Red Stars in a very close game. Although the Red Stars were victorious in a 1-0 win over the Athletica, it was a time for celebration for both teams. All of the players are experiencing the excitement of having their own professional league to play in for the first time in many years.
I personally am very excited and hopeful for this season and all of the women playing on the teams. I also plan on going to many of the games and supporting the St. Louis women in their attempt of a successful first season in their soccer history. Their story just goes to show that even though things may not work out sometimes, you can still succeed if you are determined enough and work as hard as possible to reach your goals. The women’s league was suspended many years ago, but now they are back to prove to everyone that they can play the game and deserve the same chance as everyone else to make their dreams come true.
