After weeks of hard work put in by North’s Masque Players, Crimes of the Heart debuted on Thursday, April 2. It also played Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4 to audiences in North’s auditorium.
Over 300 people attended all three nights.
“We had a really good turn-out,” sophomore Alec Broeker said. “It went much better than we expected.”
The play featured Nicole Cuneo, Jana Huebner, and Rachel Dismukes, each portraying on of the three sisters who share a dysfunctional past, and a not-too-pretty present painted by hatred and past resentment.
They return to their grandfather’s home in Mississippi after one of the babes, played by Cuneo, shoots her abusive husband. The whole point of the play is for the sisters to cope with and learn from the “crimes of the heart” they had each committed in their lifetimes. The play ended with the sisters finding unity in the face of adversity, and gaining a sense of hope for enduring the rest of their lives with each other.
“It pulled together really well,” crew member Kristen Boiles said. “In the end, it was a really good show.”
