On Thursday, April 9 FHN’s very own newspaper and yearbook staff joined several other school from around Missouri for the 40th Annual Scholastic Journalism Awards Day at the University of Missouri Students gathered on campus in the auditorium of Jesse Hall to hear guest speaker Matt Thompson, a Reynolds Journalism Institute Fellow, discuss the possibility for a Wikipedia inspired news.
From there, students broke off where they had the option to either participate in a write-off, attend different journalism sessions, or do a photo shoot off. The write-off and shoot off would later be judged and awards would be handed out for the over all best.
After these events ended, students had the luxury of exploring the campus and getting a feel for college life. During the afternoon session, students gathered back into the auditorium where the awards ceremony for the day took place. Out of the many schools that participated, Allison Sheffler won in the editorial write-off and while there were many other individual placings, North came home with the All-Missouri for Yearbook as well as Newspaper.
